Good Safeway/Hallmark/Sandwich Deal

Between now and February 14, 2011, Safeway has a Hallmark deal - buy three cards (Valentine's or otherwise) and then you get a $5 catalina (a printed coupon upon checkout) which is good on your next purchase.  Also, this week (through Feb 1 only - sorry), Safeway has their $4.99 sandwiches printing a coupon for a free sandwich on your next visit (must be redeemed by 2/20).

So, today I bought three cards ($1.99) each - and paid $6.52 and received a coupon for $5.  I then bought a sandwich (with the Safeway club discount it comes to $4.49) and added a pack of Mentos (50 cents each this week-to bring my purchase up to to $5.00-plus I like Mentos) and then paid with my $5 coupon and  a whopping 41 cents.  Now I also have a coupon for a free sandwich which I will redeem next week.

In other words, 3 Hallmark cards, 2 sandwiches, and one pack of Mentos for a total of $6.93.   I've paid that much for a couple of cards let alone sandwiches.  All in all good purchases.

PS, I also hear that some Safeways have a little teddy bear that you get from Hallmark for purchasing 3 cards--my Safeway either did not have them or were out.  No problem.

Time To Play -- The Drugstore Game Week of January 23-29, 2011

A lot of drugstores are using various rewards, register rewards (Walgreen's), UP's (Rite Aid), ECB's (CVS.)  They are good. Especially if you combine your purchases with coupons, use your RR/UP/ECB on a following purchase - and don't get carried away, you can save quite a bit.  Here's an example from Walgreen's.

Transaction 1:
Pedicare Cold Medicine $5.99
-$1.00/1 Pedicare Printable Here

Total: $4.99 Out of Pocket; Get $4.00 Register Reward

Transaction 2:

Colgate Pro Clinical Toothpast $ 3.49
Big Roll Toilet Paper 0.39
Big Roll Toilet Paper 0.39

Total:  $4.27 - $4.00 Register Reward
= $0.27 Out of Pocket; Get $2.50 Register Reward

Total Value = $10.26
Total Out of Pocket = $5.26
Register Rewards Remaining = $2.50

I usually apply the last register reward to the next week.

Now of course if you have no need for the first purchase (no kids, etc), this may not work for you.  But check out the Sunday ad's there's usually something you could use.

Tax Software - It's that time again

Amazon has a great deal on this tax software- I've been using this one for years.  It sells for $44 plus tax in most stores - although if you can't wait, Target is giving you a $10 gift card when you buy it.  Also, look for a $10 off Target coupon here
(Although the coupon may no longer be available.)
